Questions-and-answers

What is Tapas in a Box ?
Tapas in a Box is a home delivery service providing hot and cold Spanish Tapas dishes directly to your door. A versatile solution to a wide range of catering requirements, customers are ordering Tapas in a Box when entertaining, celebrating, partying, going on self-catering breaks or just to have good quality food handy in the freezer.
Why would I want to order Tapas in a Box ?

Tapas in a Box gives you an immediate new solution to your catering needs. Only a minimum of preparation is required and the Tapas dishes have been cooked using quality ingredients – to authentic recipes. Most of the cold Tapas are from small family farms in Spain, of amazing quality.

All you have to do is turn the oven on and dish your heated Tapas out in Cazuelas (you can buy them from us if you’d like some) – and present your cold Tapas in some nice serving trays.

Tapas bring a “mix and match” approach to informal entertaining, well-suited to people who are looking for great food and variety, particularly when they are short on time !

Tapas in a Box is also an ideal innovative gift. If you would like to make a friend’s day, treat a hungry student at University, or have an innovative way of saying “happy birthday”, “sorry” or “congratulations on the birth of your baby girl – you’re going to need this”, then you can order the box and we’ll deliver it to the person you would like it to go to.

How is the food cooked ?

Our Tapas dishes are prepared by hand, to authentic Spanish recipes, using only ingredients that are ethically sourced and of high quality.

The dishes are cooked in small batches by our Executive Chef, Damon Corey and his team, in his kitchen just outside Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire.

Once cooked, the dishes are blast-frozen, which means that the food is frozen very rapidly indeed. This process preserves the true flavour and texture of the food and extends the freezer life of the products. As well as providing what we think is the best process to deliver the quality from our kitchen into yours, freezing also means that there is no need for us to use artificial additives or preservatives in our dishes.

Where do your cold Tapas come from ?
You can find out more about the origins of our food, and our producers, in the Our Food and Our Partners sections of this website. In brief, our Embutidos (chorizo, salchichón, lomo) and Queso curado are produced by the Casa Vilchez, near Granada, as does our Jamón. Our Almendras (almonds) are from Alicante, and our Neules (dark chocolate and orange delicacies) are hand-made in Cataluña.
Can I personalise my box ?

Yes !

For the Medium and Large boxes, you can choose your Hot Tapas from the menu in our Shop - the cold Tapas are a fixed, but varied selection.

The Party Box has been designed specifically for people entertaining larger groups - we have selected the most popular dishes that, from experience, are easier to reheat and serve when catering for 10+ guests, and provided them in larger portions.

You can, of course, buy more than one box to match the number of your guests. And if it all seems too much, feel free to contact us, and we’ll do everything we can to help !

How do I order ?

Go into Shop, choose the products that you want and put them in your basket. When you are happy that you have selected everything you want in your basket, press the Checkout button, and you will go into the order confirmation process. Once you have completed your delivery details, press the Place Order button, and you will be taken into the online payment process, which is managed for us by Protx.

When your payment has been processed, we will send you an email confirming you order, and it's basic details.

You can submit orders up to a month in advance.

How many people will each box serve ?

When all of the food in our boxes is consumed in one sitting, the Medium box will serve 4 to 6 people, and the Large box will serve 6 to 8, and each Party Box will serve 10 people. Customers often elect to mix boxes of different sizes to suit the group they are entertaining (eg, for 15 people, order 1 Party Box, and 1 Medium Box).

When we say “serve”, we mean that anyone who has had a bit of everything will no longer be hungry !

Alternatively, some customers will want to enjoy the food over a period of days, weeks or even months; if you do this (and why not ?), it“s a little bit harder for us to predict the number of people who”ll be satisfied by it.

Special Occassion, Special Requirements ?
If you have special requirements, maybe for an event you are planning, or for a very particular purpose, we’ll be glad to help. Just call us on 01789 778844, to discuss your specific needs – if there’s no reply, please do leave a message on the answering machine – we promise to call you back !
How much time should I allow to get my meal ready ?
One hour, assuming you start with the cold Tapas, and serve the Hot Tapas one or two at a time, rather than all at once. If you are going to add lots of nice extras, you should allow a little longer. We’ll send you a suggested preparation schedule with your order to help you to plan everything. If you’d like to see this in advance, visit the Your Tapas section of this website.
How should I prepare my food ?
We’ll send you a complete set of serving suggestions and cooking instructions for your food. If you would like to see these in advance, check out the Your Tapas section of this website.

Do I have to be in when you deliver ?

No. If you don“t think you”ll be in, be sure to give us clear alternative instructions with your order. There is a box on our Checkout page specifically for your Special Delivery Instructions. Please make your instructions brief, accurate and reasonable (eg “leave at Number 59 if we are not in”, or “leave in covered area at back of house”). Your alternative should be no more than a short walk from your address, because the courier will not drive to another delivery point.

The cooling technology we use in our packaging will maintain your food at the right temperature for a minimum of 24 hours after dispatch.

When and how will my food be packaged and protected ?

Your order is packed the day before it is due to be delivered. The chilled products are packed separately from the frozen Tapas, so that we can keep each category at the correct temperatures during their journey to you. We use special frozen gel packs to keep the chilled foods below 5º C, so they’ll be in perfect nick when they arrive.

The Hot Tapas dishes (which you re-heat from frozen) are sent in a special box which is designed to keep them frozen, also using frozen gel packs.

What method of payments do you accept ?
Payment may be made by credit card or debit card. The credit cards and debit cards accepted by us are any of the following: MasterCard, Visa, Switch/Maestro and Solo.
When do you process my payment ?
Your card will not be charged until the products have been dispatched to you although authority for payment will be requested from your card issuer at the time of your order. This is done by making a reservation against the card you have used for payment. The amount reserved will be debited after we have dispatched the goods.
What if I need to cancel my order ?

If you wish to cancel your order, you may do so at any time up to 12pm on the day before your required delivery date. No refund will be available for orders cancelled after this time.

If you wish to cancel your order, please email us at info@tapasinabox.com clearly indicating “order cancellation” in the subject field of the email. Please also include your order number in your email.

What do I do if I’m not happy with the food you have sent me ?
We always aim to supply high quality products in perfect condition and undamaged. However, from time to time, products may need to be returned. If you are unsatisfied with any of the Products you have received from us, you must let us know within 3 days of delivery by emailing us at info@tapasinabox.com, telling us why you are dissatisfied with the product and we shall contact you to agree a refund or replacement. Please refer to the Products Terms & Conditions.
Does your food contain nuts or other allergens ?

Our Tapas selection does include nuts, and we cannot guarantee that our dishes are 100% free of nuts. So, if you or one of your friends suffer from an allergy to nuts, we recommend - with regret - that you should not purchase our products.

The list of allergens to be guarded against is growing all the time, so - if you or your friends suffer from food allergies - we suggest that you study the ingredients listed on our food labelling carefully. The ingredients listed on this website are for indicative purposes only, as the exact ingredients used in individual batches may vary slightly. These variations will be reflected on the labels attached to individual dishes.

Is your food suitable for vegetarians ?
A number of our foods are suitable for vegetarians. When you are browsing our boxes you will be able to identify by a green V symbol. If you are expecting vegetarian guests you might want to include some of the Hot Tapas dishes marked with this symbol. We think they are delicious, and for non-vegetarians, they provide a wonderful contrast and complement to our meat-based dishes. Give them a try !
Can I order individual dishes or products from you ?
At the moment it is not possible to order our products individually, they can only be purchased as part of a Box, with other products. We are continually reviewing new ideas so, if you would like to comment on this or any other area of our business, please email us at info@tapasinabox.com.
Are you going to introduce more dishes ?

We most certainly are ! Every month or so we will introduce new dishes, and give others a rest. Of course we’ll always be careful to keep established customer favourites in our selections. We will continue to scour Spain, and work with our existing family of suppliers, to find new foods that we think you’ll like.

In our travels looking for great food for you, we have also encountered a number of wonderful wine makers, usually from small growers who have come together and made big investments in new technology. Their wines are fantastic, and go perfectly with our Tapas, so we’ll introduce some of those into our offerings in the coming months. Watch out for them !

Can I recycle the packaging ?

We are eager to make as much as possible of our packaging recyclable, and this is and will be one of our most important criteria when we are reviewing our packaging options.

Clearly, all of our cardboard packaging can be recycled.

Our hot food containers are PET 1 so they can be recycled at recycling centres along with other PET 1 containers and bottles.

Our plastic packaging is in every case the minimum necessary to guarantee that the food gets to you in good condition - it can be recycled with other plastic bags at the recycling points which can be found in many supermarkets.

If you are lucky enough to live near one of the EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) recycling centres dotted around the country, then you can drop your EPS liner in at one of these to be recycled. You can find a list of these centres at http://www.epsrecycling.org. For those of you that don’t live near one of these centres, have a look at the section below for some ideas :

What can I do with my polystyrene boxes ?
  • Use as a cool box for picnics or camping trips, or for chilling wine or beer at a party.
  • Line your box with a blanket and use as a cat or dog bed.
  • Use them as outside food stores for fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs, bacon, etc. if your fridge is full. The foods will benefit from the dark and cool temperature, so they will keep for longer.
  • Punch holes in the bottom and use as plant pots or seedling trays.
  • Grind your polystyrene box up to use as soil conditioner to improve drainage and aeration.
  • Ask your local school or youth club if they would like them for use in art and crafts or design projects.
  • Use them to protect items in transit, or to store fragile items in a loft or shed.
